Damn Vape’s Mongrel RDA review

The Mongrel RDA arrived like a drop of freshness in a 2020 which is rotten in more ways than one. New vaping products were scarce and everyone was locked in their homes waiting for the apocalypse. It hasn’t been so dramatic as brands like VaperzCloud have offered excellent RDAs. But released in December 2020, the Mongrel RDA is a small gold nugget in terms of accessories, design or price.

Very well thought-out airflows for the Mongrel RDA

One thing that you notice with the Mongrel RDA is its price. It can be found around $ 25 to $ 30 on Chinese sites when it is packed with accessories. For the dimension, we are on 25.4 for the diameter and 32 millimeters for the height. This is a single coil RDA and it’s also welcome, as there aren’t tons of them on the market.

Already, first good surprise, the airflows are very well thought out. You have two inserts, the first with a round and the second in the shape of a grid. I used this one for my tests. You insert this airflow on the deck and turn it 90 degrees to install it. With the grid shape, I have a very tasty and voluminous vape. The volume of vape is also monstrous with a coil such as a 2 × 26 fused clapton with 36.

Another nice surprise is the plethora of accessories. Of course, as with many RDAs, the Mongrel RDA comes with a coil and cotton. But not just any one, I have the impression that it is, it’s Framed Staple or Triple Fused Clapton. It’s quite rare to find exotic coils for an atomizer around 20 bullets.

A free glass Top Cap provided

But what made the Mongrel RDA talk when it was released is that Damn Vape, who collaborated with Deuces Jack, to create it, offers a Glass Top Cap which is provided for free. You can find Glass Top Caps for some Drippers at Trinity Glass, but they cost around 20 bullets. Here you have a whole RDA around 25 dollars and the Top Cap is given free.

Considering its affordable price, the many small pleasures offered by this RDA are impressive. And the aesthetics, with the Top Cap with the coil and the cotton that we can see, is just superb. The building and wicking are very simple, it is postless, but I would say that it is a Dripper which can accommodate large coils in theory, the proof is the large coil which is provided in the packaging.

However, in the feeling of vape, it tends to heat up if you are vaping in a chain with a large coil. But all that to say that there is room to have fun with exotic coils.

Monstrous flavors for Mongrel RDA

I am not a dripper vaper, in fact the Mongrel RDA is my first dripper I bought. And my god, the flavors are simply monstrous! Even with not perfect coil and cotton, the Mongrel sings like a chaffinch in your mouth and lungs. But again, this is my first Dripper, but other reviewers also consider it a freak of flavors.

In fact, it was voted the best RDA of 2020 by reviewers like Vaping with Vic. Do the flavors change when you put the Top Cap in glass? I would say it’s very subtle, I would say the flavors are 5-10% better than the standard Top Cap. But clearly, the feeling is much better, because it is glass, therefore, much more comfortable in the mouth.

An ideal RDA for the Squonk

The Mongrel RDA has big wells, so you can indulge yourself with cotton. The tanks are 6 millimeters for a capacity of 1.3 ml which is more than substantial. However, the Mongrel is not designed for basic dripping. These very deep wells allow the cotton to get wet from below. So this RDA was designed for Squonking.

You can use it in Dripping, but to “juice” it, it is better to open the Top Cap and wet all the cotton. I must have found a fault because I needed one, but otherwise the Mongrel RDA has it all for single coil fans. If you have a Top Side or another Squonk mod, then the Mongrel will be a great companion.

In conclusion, the Mongrel RDA is arguably one of the best surprises of 2020. Damn Vape and Deuces Jack have done whatever it takes to please vapers. They did not take them for idiots by providing very complete packaging. The glass Top Cap provided free of charge is a real plus and again the price can’t be beat. In fact, I would be surprised if you could find a Dripper of this quality at this price.

So, if you are looking for a cheap Single coil Dripper or just want to try out vaping in Dripper, then go for the Mongrel without hesitation, it cannot disappoint you!
